UNC Baseball: Mac Horvath joins teammate in program record books
With his home run against Gardner Webb on Tuesday night, UNC baseball standout Mac Horvath made some notable program history.
In the history of the UNC baseball program, only two players have ever recorded 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season.
If you’re wondering who they are, you won’t have to look back far to find the duo, as they are currently teammates.
With his home run against Gardner Webb, Mac Horvath became the second player in UNC baseball history to record a 20-20 season. The other is ironically the guy hitting a spot ahead of him on Tuesday night, as Vance Honeycutt accomplished the feat last season.
Horvath has put together an outstanding junior season, as he’s on pace to set new career highs in multiple offensive categories. Coming into Tuesday’s action (46 total games), the Rochester, Minnesota native was hitting not only for average ( .312) but for power as well.
As Honeycutt has drawn a lot of attention (and rightly so), Horvath deserves a ton of attention and credit as well. He’s been a focal point of the UNC baseball program’s lineup all season long, as he continues to be a dominant force that serves as a very tough out for opposing pitchers.
Not only is he just the second Tar Heel to record a 20-20 season, but is the first in the NCAA to accomplish the feat during the 2023 season. Although he’s had an outstanding season thus far, Mac Horvath and the UNC baseball program still have a lot of work to do over the next couple of weeks.
