UNC Football: Michael Merdinger commits to North Carolina
The momentum in Michael Merdinger’s recruitment was real, as the Class of 2024 quarterback has officially committed to the UNC football program.
Well, that didn’t take long!
Earlier on Sunday, we detailed how three-star quarterback Michael Merdinger picked up not only an official offer from the UNC football program but a Crystal Ball prediction in their favor as well.
Just hours later, Merdinger made his official decision known.
On social media, Merdinger announced his commitment to North Carolina. He becomes the 13th player to join the Tar Heels 2024 recruiting class and is the lone signal-caller among the group of players.
As a junior, Merdinger was Cardinal Gibbons’ backup quarterback, as he worked behind Dylan Rizk, who is heading to UCF. He did appear in 9 games, completing 57 of his 82 pass attempts (69.5 percent) for 721 yards with 9 touchdowns while only throwing one interception.
This is a prospect whose ranking could rise rapidly. As he’s expected to take over the reins of Cardinal Gibbons’ offense this fall, a strong senior season will certainly help his stock rise.
It didn’t take long for Merdinger to decide that Chapel Hill was the right place for him, as his recruitment comes to a close prior to the start of his senior season. The UNC football program got their guy, as the hope is that the Fort Lauderdale, Florida native will be the next star quarterback for the program.
