Mack Brown and the UNC football program have reportedly been exploring ways to add wide receiver depth through the transfer portal.

One of the biggest headlines of the UNC football program’s offseason has been the revamped wide receiver room.

With Josh Downs and Antoine Green heading to the NFL, the Tar Heels needed to add depth in this area to help star quarterback Drake Maye. They brought in Devontez “Tez” Walker and Nate McCollum to help fill the void but may be looking for even more talent via the transfer portal.

North Carolina is reportedly one of many teams to contact Michigan State transfer Keon Coleman, who entered the portal on April 30. The former four-star recruit is coming off a season in which he recorded 58 catches for 798 yards and seven touchdowns.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound receiver will have two seasons of eligibility remaining wherever he decides to go. That could bode really well for North Carolina, as they look to add depth not only for this upcoming season but for future years as well.

As Mack Brown noted multiple times over the offseason, the program has drawn plenty of interest from offensive skill players, as the possibility of playing with Maye is an enticing opportunity. There are plenty of teams involved for Coleman’s services, but North Carolina may have an upper hand given the star power that Maye possesses.

If the UNC football program could add a player like Coleman to the mix, they would have three veteran wide receivers to help re-create the offensive attack. With a strong tight end room already, Coleman’s potential addition could add to an offense that is already expected to be a strong unit heading into the 2023 season.
