UNC Football the favorite to land this Class of 2024 quarterback?
After recently extending an offer to this Class of 2024 quarterback, did the UNC football program instantly become the favorite in his recruitment?
It seems as if the UNC football program is gaining momentum toward adding a Class of 2024 signal-caller.
On his personal Twitter account, Michael Merdinger announced that he had received an offer from the Tar Heels. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native is currently viewed as a three-star prospect by 247Sports.
Even before Merdinger posted about his offer from North Carolina, a Crystal Ball prediction was placed in favor of Mack Brown’s program. That prediction was placed by Steve Wiltfong, Director of Football Recruiting at 247Sports, who was gotten all but one of his 122 predictions correct with regard to this specific class.
As a junior, Merdinger was Cardinal Gibbons’ backup quarterback, as he worked behind Dylan Rizk, who is heading to UCF. He did appear in 9 games, completing 57 of his 82 pass attempts (69.5 percent) for 721 yards with 9 touchdowns while only throwing one interception.
This is a prospect whose ranking could rise rapidly. As he’s expected to take over the reins of Cardinal Gibbons’ offense this fall, a strong senior season will certainly help his stock rise.
The UNC football program has 12 commitments already in the Class of 2024 but does not have a quarterback among the group. Given the recent momentum, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a commitment from Merdinger coming in the near future.
