A former UNC basketball player is once again available, as Will Shaver has decided to back out of his commitment to Belmont.

In a social media post on Sunday morning, former UNC basketball player Will Shaver announced that he will decommit from Belmont.

The 6-foot-10 big man enrolled early at North Carolina and was with the team through their run to the national championship game. Hoping to make an impact as a redshirt freshman, Shaver only appeared in three games as a Tar Heel, as this past season was hampered by a foot injury.

Shaver originally entered the transfer portal on March 25 and committed to the Bruins back on April 20. However, the Birmingham, Alabama native seems to have had a change of heart, as he will re-explore his options.

It was rather surprising to see Shaver’s announcement, as it appeared he was ready to make his way to Belmont. Just when we thought that all the former UNC basketball players in the transfer portal have found their new landing spots, Will Shaver threw us a curveball, as we’ll have to wait and see where the next stop is for the former Tar Heel.
