UNC Basketball commits headline 2023 reclassification candidates list
A pair of UNC basketball commits headline a list of players who could potentially decide to reclassify into the Class of 2023.
There has been plenty of talk about reclassifying, especially regarding some of the top players who are committed to the UNC basketball program.
Five-stars Elliot Cadeau and Ian Jackson are currently tabbed the join the Tar Heels in 2024, but that could potentially be moved up so that one (or both) could head to Chapel Hill this summer.
Recently, Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports broke down his list of reclassification candidates to know for 2023, as the list was headlined by the future Tar Heel duo.
"One of the more athletic prospects in the high school game, Ian Jackson has quick-twitch fibers that should serve him well in the ACC. He has a quick first step, great defensive potential, and is potent at reading the second level of a defense. While he could work for more consistency with his jumper, his athleticism will give him a great shot at making an early impact on both ends of the floor when he arrives."
In Jackson’s case, Jenkins believes that his athleticism will do him well in the ACC. Even though Jenkins would like to see more consistency shooting jump shots, his current skillset makes him a possible immediate impact on both sides of the floor.
"Elliot Cadeau is arguably the best point guard in the national junior class. The 6-foot-1 lead guard has been rumored to reclass for some time, and a decision should be made by summer’s end.Pledged to the Tar Heels, Cadeau combines great burst and change of direction with a high level feel for the game. His game is college ready and he is currently proving his worth by racking up the assist totals on the Nike EYBL circuit this spring."
For some time now, Cadeau has been making his case as the top point guard in his class. Whether he arrives in Chapel Hill this summer or next, the UNC basketball program will be adding an elite passer who has the ability to impact the game in a variety of ways.
There’s plenty of excitement to see both players at the University of North Carolina, and it will be an interesting storyline to follow over the next few months as to whether one (or both) decide to arrive on campus earlier than anticipated.
