UNC Baseball: Mac Horvath earns multiple weekly honors
After a dominant week at the plate, UNC baseball standout Mac Horvath earned multiple weekly honors for his performances on the field.
It’s very difficult to have a better week than UNC baseball standout Mac Horvath did to wrap up the month of April.
The junior infielder led the Diamond Heels to a 3-1 record, as the team picked up some much-needed victories in hopes of keeping their postseason aspirations alive. It was what Horvath did offensively that made the difference, as he flat-out dominated at the plate.
Over the four games, Horvath hit .563 and had a staggering 19 RBIs over the span. The Rochester, Minnesota native drove in eight runs in Tuesday night’s win over UNC Wilmington and followed it up with seven more RBIs against Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Against UNCW, Horvath slugged a pair of three-run home runs. Against the Hokies, Horvath added two more long balls, one grand slam, and another three-run shot, as he reached base in five of his eight plate appearances during the doubleheader.
For his stellar performance, Horvath was named both the ACC Player of the Week as well as the Perfect Game USA Player of the Week.
Horvath is the first Diamond Heel to receive the ACC Player of the Week Award during the 2023 season.
It has been said that Horvath called a players-only meeting to discuss the team’s struggles prior to the start of the week, as he challenged his teammates to help the team get back on track. The junior not only talked the talk but walked the walk, as his strong week hopefully goes a long way in helping this team get on a hot streak as they near the end of the regular season.
