Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program have added another transfer, this one a guard with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
The UNC women’s basketball program has added another piece to next year’s roster, as Stanford transfer Indya Nivar announced that she’ll be heading to Chapel Hill.
Former Stanford guard Indya Nivar announced on her Instagram that she has committed to UNC. The North Carolina native transferred from Stanford following her freshman season.

Nivar was a highly-touted prospect coming out of high school, as she was a top-20 prospect as well as a high school All-American. The Apex, North Carolina native decided to commit to Stanford, but her stay there only lasted one season.
The 5-foot-10 guard did appear in 35 games (making one start) but really didn’t have a major role in the team’s rotation. Over 12.6 minutes per contest, Nivar averaged 3.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game.

When she originally entered the transfer portal, it was expected that Nivar would find a new home within the ACC. That new home comes in Chapel Hill, as she’ll look to make an impact for the Tar Heels moving forward.
With three seasons of eligibility remaining, Nivar has plenty of time to carve a major role in Courtney Banghart’s rotation. She might not be in line to start upon arrival, given the team’s returning veteran depth, but it could be expected that Nivar could be a dependable bench option for the UNC women’s basketball program to work with.
The addition of Nivar gives North Carolina three transfer commitments this offseason, as the Tar Heels will have at least seven new players (including four incoming freshmen) on next season’s roster.
