Heading into an important season for him individually, UNC football’s Drake Maye has goals in mind that focus on the Tar Heels’ success.
There’s a lot of attention surrounding the UNC football program heading into the 2023 season, mainly due to the presence of star quarterback Drake Maye.
Maye, who is expected to be one of the top players taken in next year’s NFL Draft, has a big season ahead as he looks to confirm that he is the real deal. Coming off a stellar redshirt freshman season, all eyes are on the Tar Heels signal-caller to see if he can replicate that success.
As important as this season is for Maye individually, his ultimate goals focus on the success of his team.
"“I think getting back to the ACC Championship and, obviously, our goal of winning the ACC Championship. Whatever that takes. 11, 12 (wins). I think we could have won, probably, 12 last year. So (I’m) looking forward to it.”“Coach Brown says win all the games so that’s obviously our goal. We don’t expect to go out there and strap them up expecting to lose. I know I surely don’t.”"
After finishing the season 9-5 with two consecutive postseason losses, Maye and the Tar Heels seem to have a chip on their shoulder given how last season concluded. He aspires to not only lead the UNC football program back to the ACC Championship game but to win it this time around.
For someone in Maye’s position, his ultimate goal could’ve been to win the Heisman Trophy or to end up being a top pick in the NFL Draft. However, Maye aspires to help his beloved program win its first conference title since 1980, a feat that would have a major impact on the future of the UNC football program.
