UNC baseball standout relief pitcher Kevin Eaise earned some midseason recognition for his strong performance thus far as a Diamond Heel.

This week, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) announced its  Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List.

Overall, 56 relief pitchers across the country were named to this list, one that recognizes the student-athletes who have stepped up out of the bullpen for their respective ball clubs. Kevin Eaise represents the UNC baseball program on the list, as he was one of seven ACC selections.

In his first season with the Diamond Heels, the graduate transfer has become a very reliable option for Scott Forbes to call upon. Over 17 appearances, the right-hander holds a 2.68 ERA over 37.0 total innings pitched. He with five saves, and has done a good job of limiting contact from opposing hitters. Currently, he has struck out 45 opponents, averaging 1.21 strikeouts per inning.

A lot of talk surrounding the UNC baseball program this season has been the pitching, as inconsistency on the mound has impacted the team’s success. However, Eaise has been a tremendous pick-up for the Diamond Heels, as Forbes and his staff are not afraid to turn to the Monroeville, New Jersey native at any point to get some much-needed outs.

The NCBWA is set to announce the finalists for this year’s award on Wednesday, June 7. The overall winner will be named at the 2023 College Baseball World Series on Friday, June 16.
