All six of the former UNC basketball players that entered the transfer portal have now found homes, as Puff Johnson announced his destination.

The wait is officially over: we now know where each of the six former UNC basketball players in the transfer portal are heading.

On Wednesday, Puff Johnson announced that he has committed to Penn State. The former Tar Heel will have two seasons of eligibility remaining to play at his new landing spot.

Johnson was scheduled to visit Penn State this week, shortly after making a stop to Butler for his first official visit. It appears the visit to State College went well, as Johnson will now return closer to home to play for Mike Rhoades.

It’s a new era for the Nittany Lions, as Rhoades takes over the program after a six-year stint as the head coach of VCU. Johnson will look to make an impact right away. His size and ability to stretch the floor should help Penn State as they look to be competitive in the Big Ten.

The 6-foot-8 forward saw a steady increase in minutes during his time in Chapel Hill, but injuries simply impacted him during those three seasons. As a junior, Johnson was one of the steady contributors off the bench for Hubert Davis’ squad, as he averaged 4.1 points and 2.7 rebounds and just under 16 minutes per contest over his 27 appearances.

Before his announcement became official, Justin McKoy, Johnson’s former teammate at North Carolina, had some fun trying to be a “breaking news reporter.”

The offseason looks much clearer for the UNC basketball program at this point, as they have brought in some new talent while all of their transfers found new homes. The hope is that it works out for both sides as they take on the new challenges that lie ahead.
