Former UNC baseball player Michael Busch recently got called up to the MLB level and immediately began making an impact for the Dodgers!

Just yesterday former UNC baseball player Michael Busch was informed he would join the Los Angeles Dodgers in Pittsburgh. The Dodgers had two position players on the paternity list and opted to call up their No. 3 prospect in the pipeline to the big leagues.

Just over twenty-four hours after getting called up to the MLB level, Busch discovered he would be getting the start as the designated hitter for the Dodgers.

Busch started his MLB career hitless over his first two at-bats, with a strikeout in his first plate appearance and a fielder’s choice ground out in his second. However, in his third plate appearance and with the Dodgers trailing 7-3 in the sixth inning, Busch came through with his first career MLB hit and an RBI that helped LA cut into the deficit.

In his final plate appearance in the eighth inning, Busch was able to earn a walk. Following his patient at bat, Dodgers third baseman Chris Taylor hit a three-run home run, that scored Busch and gave the Dodgers the 8-7 lead which they would hold onto over the next two defensive innings to earn the win.

Busch was one of the top first basemen in the country during his time in Chapel Hill and was an important piece of the 2018 Diamond Heels team that made it to the College World Series. If you don’t have an MLB team, maybe start paying attention to the Dodgers and keep an eye out for Busch. He’s one of the most talented position players the Diamond Heels have had to make it to the Big Leagues since Kyle Seager, who just retired after last season.
