Another former UNC baseball standout is making his way to the big leagues, as Michael Busch is set to join the Los Angeles Dodgers in Pittsburgh.

According to Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times, former UNC baseball standout Michael Busch is expected to get his first-ever call to the big leagues.

Busch, the Dodgers’ No. 3 ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline, is expected to take the place of either Max Muncy or Brusdar Graterol, both of whom are expected to go on the paternity list. The former first-round pick spent the first part of the 2023 season in Triple-A, where he posted a slash line of .337/.461/.506 over 21 games (102 plate appearances).

The former Diamond Heel has been making his case for this opportunity, as his offensive production has been very good in the minor leagues. He has shown the ability to hit for power while also being patient at the plate, showing just why he’s ranked among some of the top prospect lists in all of baseball.

Although Tar Heels fans remember him mostly as a first baseman, Busch has been transitioning mostly to second base over the last few seasons. His versatility may get him a crack in the big league lineup, as he’s also played some outfield and a little third base in his professional career so far.

His stint may not be long, but we may be on the verge of witnessing another former UNC baseball star making his big league debut in the near future.
