UNC Football program contacts Georgia cornerback transfer
In need of some secondary help, Mack Brown and the UNC football program have contacted a potential transfer option that recently became available.
Since the transfer portal re-opened, Mack Brown and the UNC football program have seen a few defensive players decide to leave Chapel Hill.
The secondary, which already was an area of concern, took a hit, as the Tar Heels look to reshape the state of this position. Just as they lost talent to the transfer portal, they are also exploring opportunities to gain some talent from it.
North Carolina was one of a handful of teams to reach out to Georgia cornerback Marcus Washington. The former four-star recruit looks for a fresh start after redshirting during his freshman season.
Washington originally re-classed to join the Bulldogs a season early but only saw limited action in one game. With Georgia bringing in six defensive backs in their latest signing class, it’s safe to say that the Grovetown, Georgia native felt that he could find more opportunities elsewhere.
Although there’s not much on him from his brief stint at Georgia, Washington was one of the more sought-after cornerbacks in his recruiting class. As a high schooler, the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder was ranked by 247Sports Composite as the No. 18 overall cornerback.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that the UNC football program is looking at every potential option, as Washington may ultimately be a player that could come in and help this year’s squad. Over the next few weeks, expect the Tar Heels to show interest in various players who enter the transfer portal, especially if any talented secondary players are looking for new homes.
