With spring practices finalized, defensive back Don Chapman has decided to leave the UNC football program via the transfer portal.

Spring practices for college football programs are now over, as the transfer portal has once again opened up.

On Wednesday, the UNC football program found out that defensive back Don Chapman will be leaving the program.

Chapman spent four seasons in Chapel Hill, as he made 20 career starts. During his senior season, the San Diego, California native was moved into a reserve role, but still played in 11 of the Tar Heels games. Overall, Chapman finished the 2022 season with 32 tackles, three passes defended, and a forced fumble.

A former three-star prospect, Chapman will have one season of eligibility remaining. In all likelihood, he will look for an opportunity to be a starter once again in his final season of college football.

In the new world of the transfer portal, programs across the country have lost players once spring practices concluded. The UNC football program is no exception, as Chapman is the first known scholarship player to enter his name in the portal.

Are more on the way? At this point, who really knows. We’ve seen plenty of crazy things happen via the transfer portal.

The better question remains: can the Tar Heels find some secondary help through the portal before the 2023 season gets underway, or will they focus their attention on improving in other areas?
