According to one college basketball analyst, the UNC basketball program is a “school to watch” for this ACC standout transfer.

We recently found out that Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program are pursuing another top ACC transfer.

To follow up on that original report, Jamie Shaw of On3 lists North Carolina as a “school to watch for” in this player’s recruitment:

"Matthew Cleveland was the leading scorer for Florida State this season. The 6-foot-7 sophomore wing averaged 13.8 points on 46.4 percent from the field and 35.0 percent from three.Things have been somewhat quiet around Cleveland’s recruitment. Sources say four schools to watch for in the former five-star prospect’s recruitment are Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, and Miami. I am told that visits should be happening soon, and I am hearing there is room for a fifth school to work its way in, but things could also stay here. Watch to see which visits are set, which are taken, and monitor the timeline."

Shaw believes that the Tar Heels are very much in the mix for Florida State transfer Matthew Cleveland, along with Michigan, Missouri, and Miami. There is potential for at least one more school to jump in the mix, but it is expected that the former five-star prospect’s visits could be happening soon.

Cleveland was the leading scorer on a Florida State team that put together a disappointing 2022-2023 season. Looking for a better opportunity elsewhere, the rising junior could be a very nice addition to any of the teams that are in the mix.

For the Tar Heels, Cleveland could easily help fill the void at the wing position. Not only can he score the basketball, but features size and athleticism that could be a problem for opposing teams. His numbers took a steady jump during his sophomore campaign, and it is expected that they can rise even more with the team he chooses to play for.

Davis and his staff have been very busy in the transfer portal, as they have plenty of holes to still fill on next season’s roster. It’s possible that Cleveland could ultimately claim one of the open spots and become an instant impact player for the UNC basketball program moving forward.
