Former UNC women’s basketball player Destiny Adams is heading closer to home, as her transfer destination brings her back to her home state.

Destiny Adams is heading home.

The former UNC women’s basketball player has announced that she will transfer to Rutgers University. Adams, a Manchester, New Jersey native, will continue her collegiate career in her home state.

It was a rather surprise when Adams originally announced that she’ll be leaving North Carolina shortly after her sophomore season concluded. Coming off a season in which she became an important bench piece for the Tar Heels, it was expected that she would return and see even more of an expanded role during her junior season.

However, Adams decided it was time to pursue other opportunities, with Rutgers ending up being the perfect fit for her.

The Scarlet Knights, under the direction of Coquese Washington, had a disappointing 2022-2023 season that finished with a 12-20 overall record. Adams will come in with the hopes of helping the program get back on track in Washington’s second season at the helm.

Both UNC women’s basketball players who have entered the transfer portal have found their new landing sports. Kennedy Todd-Williams announced her commitment to Ole Miss, while Adams followed a few weeks later with her decision to attend Rutgers.

Although she is moving on, the hope is that Destiny Adams makes the most of her opportunity to once again play basketball in her home state.
