UNC Football: Rece Davis has high praise for Drake Maye
One college football analyst had some very high praise for UNC football standout Drake Maye as he looks ahead to next year’s NFL Draft.
Around this time of year, the focus for NFL teams revolves around reshaping their rosters, especially those needing a franchise quarterback.
Although there are a few solid signal-callers in this year’s draft class, one college football analyst believes that next year’s group is even better.
Among next year’s potential class is none other than UNC football standout Drake Maye, who is already drawing a ton of interest given his outstanding redshirt freshman season in Chapel Hill. Heading into year two as the Tar Heels starter, the expectation is that Maye will be heading to the pros once this season is over.
On the Pat McAfee Show, college football analyst Rece Davis discussed both Maye and Caleb Williams, the two likely top quarterbacks on the draft board next year. Here’s what Davis had to say:
"“I love Drake Maye at North Carolina, Caleb is obviously great. They are your generational, can’t miss, no real holes at this point type of quarterback that I wouldn’t mind staking my franchise to. I like C.J. Stroud a lot, I love Bryce Young. I’ve mentioned, there’s a little history there that would give me pause to staking your franchise to it. Everything in the draft is a gamble to a degree. I would have far fewer questions doing it with Drake Maye or Caleb Williams.”"
Based on his comments, it seems like Davis would rather wait a year to draft one of the, what he called, “generational talents.” He does have a valid point in saying that there are fewer questions surrounding Maye and Williams as opposed to the likes of 2023 prospects such as C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young.
Maye and Williams still have a lot to prove heading into the new season, as they both look to solidify their status as the top available quarterbacks. If they continue to produce at a high level, they were both be very attractive options for NFL teams to explore.
