The UNC basketball has lost another member of last year’s roster, as Will Shaver will be entering the transfer portal to pursue other opportunities.

Make that five UNC basketball players from the 2022-2023 team to enter their name into the transfer portal.

Will Shaver becomes the latest Tar Heel entry into the portal, as he leaves North Carolina with just three total appearances during his time with the program.

After graduating high school early, Shaver decided to enroll early in January 2022. The goal of this was to practice with the team and get acclimated for the following season. He was with the team for the deep run into the NCAA Tournament and returned with hopes of providing depth in the frontcourt.

However, the Birmingham, Alabama native was limited to just three games as a redshirt freshman, as he suffered a broken bone in his left foot during the team’s practice on December 20 that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

His decision to enter the transfer portal isn’t surprising, especially given that Armando Bacot and Jalen Washington are set to return. He’ll look to regain his health and find an opportunity for more playing time elsewhere with plenty of college eligibility remaining.

The UNC basketball program awaits the decision from a few key players (such as Caleb Love, Seth Trimble, and D’Marco Dunn), but based on what we already know, next year’s roster is going to look a lot different than it did this past season.

Next. RJ Davis to return for senior season. dark
