On Wednesday, two UNC women’s basketball standouts were named as region finalists for the annual WBCA All-America honors.

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has announced its region finalists for their annual NCAA Division I Coaches’ All-America honors, as two UNC women’s basketball standouts made the list.

Juniors Deja Kelly and Alyssa Ustby are among the 12 players who made the Region 1 finalist list, as North Carolina is one of just three ACC schools to have two representatives among the finalists.

Kelly, who was an All-America honorable mention selection a season ago, had another strong season for the UNC women’s basketball program. Her 16.5 points, 3.2 assists, and 35.5 minutes played per contest all led the Tar Heels, as she was also among the ACC’s leaders in all three categories.

Ustby was one of the best rebounders in the ACC, averaging 8.3 rebounds per game. She ranked among the top ten in the ACC in field goal percentage (third), ninth in blocks (ninth), and steals (10th). Doing a little bit of everything for Courtney Banghart’s team, Ustby also led the Tar Heels in the above-mentioned statistical categories.

Here’s the list of Region 1 All-America finalists:

Georgia Amoore (Virginia Tech)
Sonia Citron (Notre Dame)
Dyaisha Fair (Syracuse)
Abbey Hsu (Columbia)
Diamond Johnson (North Carolina State)
Deja Kelly (North Carolina)
Elizabeth Kitley (Virginia Tech)
Ta’Niya Latson (Florida State)
Olivia Miles (Notre Dame)
Celeste Taylor (Duke)
Alyssa Ustby (North Carolina)
Hailey Van Lith (Louisville)

The WBCA will officially announce the All-America honors for the 2022-2023 season later this month.
