Former UNC basketball player Tyler Nickel entered the portal last week and has since heard from several schools interested in him.

As reported by Jamie Shaw with On3Sports, Tyler Nickel, the UNC Basketball freshman who entered the transfer portal last week, has heard from many schools that would love for him to be an addition to their team in 2023-2024.

As you can see, many power six schools are on this list, including an ACC foe in Virginia Tech and two SEC schools, Mississippi State and South Carolina. North Carolina fans have expressed their disgruntled feelings on social media after losing Nickel and Dontrez Styles to the transfer portal. If either, or both, of them, do indeed end up landing at a school in a major conference and having success, then it could be a hard pill to swallow for some UNC fans that wish they would have played more last season.

Nickel is most well-known for his three-point shooting and scoring ability. He holds the Virginia high school scoring record for most points in a career with 2,909. He struggled to ever get in a rhythm offensively for the Tar Heels last season coming off the bench and playing sparingly over the final few weeks.

If UNC loses another player to South Carolina, that would be the second year in a row that a Carolina commit or player has chosen the Gamecocks over the Tar Heels as last season GG Jackson, the No. 6 ranked player in the country according to 247Sports, chose to reclassify from the 2023 class to 2022 and go to Columbia instead of Chapel Hill.
