Another UNC basketball player has entered the transfer portal, as freshman Tyler Nickel is also set to make his way out of Chapel Hill.

First, it was Justin McKoy, now it’s Tyler Nickel.

Shortly after the news of McKoy entering the transfer portal surfaced, it was also announced that Tyler Nickel will be joining him.

Nickel arrived in Chapel Hill with high expectations, given his ability to score the basketball throughout his high school career. However, Nickel struggled to find a consistent role in the team’s rotation, as he played just 76 minutes over the team’s final 22 games this season.

His best game as a Tar Heel came on December 13, as he scored a career-high 16 points in the victory over Citadel. After that time, we didn’t really see much from Nickel, as he was one of the players that fans on social media were calling to see more of.

Nickel is one of the reserve guys that didn’t have a clear-cut role carved out for him, as he barely was even a factor offensively in his limited action. Given the flashes he showed, this is a disappointing announcement, as he’ll look for an opportunity to earn playing time elsewhere.

The UNC basketball now has two players in the transfer portal and could see more enter over the next couple of days.
