The UNC basketball program is losing another player to the transfer portal, as Dontrez Styles plans on being the next Tar Heel to enter.

In what seemed to be the likely outcome, Dontrez Styles plans to be the next UNC basketball player to enter the transfer portal.

Styles will become the third Tar Heel to enter the portal, following Justin McKoy and Tyler Nickel. He will enter the transfer portal after spending his first two collegiate seasons at North Carolina.

During his time in Chapel Hill, Styles was unable to carve out a consistent role in Hubert Davis’ rotation. Over his two seasons, Styles averaged less than six minutes per game, as he was one of the reserve players that fans called for to see more playing time.

The former four-star recruit made 30 appearances during his freshman season and stepped up in the team’s NCAA Tournament victory last season over Baylor. However, his playing time went down even more, as the Kinston, North Carolina native appeared in just 15 contests this past season.

As the season went along, this was the most likely outcome for Styles’ future. He’ll now hit the transfer portal in hopes of finding a bigger role elsewhere.
