For the second consecutive season, UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot has earned First-Team All-ACC honors.

Prior to the 2022-2023 season, only 18 former UNC basketball standouts earned First-Team All-ACC honors on multiple occasions.

On Monday, that number increased to 19.

Senior big man Armando Bacot has joined the list, as he was named a First-Team All-ACC selection for the second consecutive season. The Richmond, Virginia native earned 324 points in the voting, which was second-most to Miami’s Isaiah Wong.

All-ACC First-Team
Isaiah Wong, Miami, 337
Armando Bacot, North Carolina, 324
Tyree Appleby, Wake Forest, 319
Hunter Tyson, Clemson, 271
Jamarius Burton, Pitt, 262

Bacot was the only Tar Heel to earn conference player of the week honors this season, as he took home the award on three separate occasions. Over 30 games played, the senior big man averaged 16.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per game while shooting 55.2 percent from the floor.

During the 2022-2023 season, Bacot made UNC basketball history, as he re-wrote the program’s previous double-double and rebounding records. He also continues to move up the program’s all-time scorers list, as he most recently passed legendary Michael Jordan for sole possession of 14th place.

Considered one of the preseason favorites for the ACC Player of the Year Award, Bacot finished third in the voting. He finished behind Wong and Tyree Appleby of Wake Forest in the voting, as the final stretch of the season (plus some of the Tar Heels’ struggles this season) could have played a factor in the end results.

Nonetheless, Bacot once again put up a very strong season for the UNC basketball program and is very deserving of the recognition. He’ll look to lead the Tar Heels to a run in the ACC Tournament, as North Carolina hopes to find a way to creep into the NCAA Tournament field.
