UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot is among the 15 student-athletes for the 2023 Men’s National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award.

On March 4, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced the list of student-athletes who earned a spot on the 2023 Men’s National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award.

The National Ballot, which is selected by the Wooden Award National Advisory Board, features 15 student-athletes who are candidates for not both the Wooden Award All-American Teams but for the Wooden Award Trophy as well.

This award not only highlights what student-athletes do on the basketball court but takes into account their character and academic success as well.

As part of ESPN’s College GameDay broadcast, which was live from Chapel Hill prior to the UNC basketball program’s contest against Duke, the announcement of this list was made, as Armando Bacot represents the Tar Heels on this prestigious list.

Bacot is just one of two ACC players to make the cut, as he’s joined by Isaiah Wong of Miami. The entire list of student-athletes can be found below:

Armando Bacot (North Carolina)
Antoine Davis (Detroit Mercy)
Zach Edey (Purdue)
Trayce Jackson-Davis (Indiana)
Jaime Jaquez Jr. (UCLA)
Keyontae Johnson (Kansas State)
Mike Miles Jr. (TCU)
Kris Murray (Iowa)
Jalen Pickett (Penn State)
Marcus Sasser (Houston)
Drew Timme (Gonzaga)
Oscar Tshiebwe (Kentucky)
Azuolas Tubelis (Arizona)
Jalen Wilson (Kansas)
Isaiah Wong (Miami)

Bacot is a prime example of what a student-athlete should strive to be, as he’s truly made the most of his time at the University of North Carolina.

On the court, Bacot has developed into a dominant force, re-writing the record books as part of his historic journey. Off the court, the Richmond, Virginia native puts as much effort into his schoolwork, as he is striving in the notoriously challenging Kenan-Flagler Business School.

The finalists for the annual Wooden Award are set to be announced on March 29.
