UNC Football: Clyde Christensen joining staff as an analyst
The UNC football program has added even more experience to its coaching staff, as Clyde Christensen has been brought in as an analyst.
Clyde Christensen is returning to the UNC football program.
The former Tar Heel quarterback has agreed to join the program as an analyst. This news was confirmed by head coach Mack Brown during his press conference on Wednesday.
After 28 seasons of working in the NFL, Christensen decided to retire in January. It didn’t take him long to get back into the sport, as he’ll return to Chapel Hill in hopes of helping the UNC football program.
According to Brown, Christensen will serve as a volunteer, as he’ll be not only helping on the field (mostly with quarterback development) but also with recruiting as well. As expected, Brown is very excited about this addition to his staff:
"“You look at his background. He had 16 years coaching in college — he was an offensive coordinator at East Carolina and co-coordinator at Clemson — 26 years coaching in the NFL, he’s a North Carolina graduate. He coached quarterbacks for Tampa Bay, was an offensive coordinator for Tampa Bay, but he’s also been the offensive coordinator for the Colts. He was quarterback coach for the Indianapolis Colts. He was offensive coordinator for the Dolphins, and quarterback coach for Tampa Bay. So he has coached quarterbacks Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, Jameis Winston and Tom Brady. And he’s won two Super Bowls.”"
Not only did Christensen win two Super Bowls as a coach, but worked very closely with some of the best quarterbacks to ever play the sport. Mainly as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Christensen spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Indianapolis Colts, and Miami Dolphins, having the opportunity to coach the likes of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.
The Tar Heels expect to have a very good offense once again in 2023, as Christensen will now be able to work with Drake Maye, who many project to be a first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft. His wisdom and knowledge could be very helpful for Maye as he aims to take his game to the next level.
