The UNC basketball program accomplished something in Monday night’s win over Florida State that they’ve surprisingly never done before.

Throughout the history of the UNC basketball program, the Tar Heels have had plenty of very good shooting teams.

However, none of the prior teams have been able to accomplish what this year’s group did during Monday night’s victory over Florida State.

North Carolina had four players (Leaky Black, RJ Davis, Caleb Love, and Pete Nance) knock down at least three three-point field goals apiece. This is the first time that four Tar Heels have done so in a single game.

The Tar Heels caught fire from beyond the arc early, draining 11 three-point attempts over the first half of play. This played a major role in helping the UNC basketball program capture its third consecutive victory.

Of course, this year’s squad hasn’t shot the basketball particularly well from deep but has shown flashes of being able to knock down shots throughout. As we saw on Monday night, this group is tough to beat when they are knocking down shots, but it simply hasn’t been a consistent factor for them during the 2022-2023 regular season.

As we inch toward postseason play, the hope is that we’ll see more of what the Tar Heels did in the first half against the Seminoles. If they can continue to make some key shots, they will not only be a tough matchup in the ACC Tournament but will make a strong case to earn an NCAA Tournament bid as well.
