UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot is among this year’s recipients of the annual ACC postgraduate scholarships awards.

On Friday, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced the names of the 53 student-athletes who have been selected as 2023 Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Award recipients.

In case you’re unfamiliar with the scholarship awards, here’s some information, courtesy of the ACC.

"The Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford and Jim and Pat Thacker postgraduate scholarships are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community."

Every year since 1971, the ACC has selected postgraduate scholarship recipients, as they’ve provided more than $4.7 million to more than 1,000 student-athletes that have competed within the conference.

This year, four North Carolina student-athletes have been selected, including UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot. Here’s a list of this year’s recipients:

2023 ACC Postgraduate Scholars

Anton Down-Jenkins (Men’s Swimming and Diving)
Destiny Middleton (Softball)

Jim & Pat Thacker Scholarship Recipient

Elizabeth Culton (Gymnastics)

Honorary Scholarship Nominees

Armando Bacot (Men’s Basketball)

Bacot is among the 11 honorary recipients, as he qualifies given that he aspires to pursue a professional career in the sport of basketball.

This year’s recipients will be recognized as part of an ACC Network special program that is scheduled to be aired sometime in May.

Now, to clarify, this by no means indicates that Bacot plans on returning for his fifth year of eligibility. This award recognizes his success both on and off the court as well as his future ambitions of making a future career in his respective sport.
