The UNC baseball program left little doubt on Tuesday afternoon, as they picked up their third victory of the season in dominant fashion over Radford.

Following a series win over Seton Hall to begin the 2023 season, the UNC baseball program followed it up with a dominant victory over Radford on Tuesday afternoon.

The Tar Heels left little doubt, as a six-run second inning set the tempo for what would end up being a 14-2 victory at home. As good as the offense was in this game, it was the pitching that was the main highlight for Scott Forbes’ team.

Southpaw Kyle Percival made his UNC baseball debut and made about as good of a first impression as he could. The freshman from Lancaster, South Carolina allowed just one run over five innings of work, as he only needed an efficient 72 pitches to get through five frames.

After Percival made his debut, two other Tar Heels saw their first action as members of the UNC baseball program. Transfer Nelson Berkwich and freshman Will Simmons made their first appearances out of the pen, as they combined to allow one unearned run over their two innings in relief.

Overall, the five Tar Heel pitchers combined to strike out 15 Radford hitters, as they did a great job of limiting offensive opportunities for their non-conference opponents.

Offensively, we got to see a handful of Tar Heels, as Forbes went to his bench to get some of his players some action. Slugger Alberto Osuna made his season debut as a pinch hitter, as he was retired in his first two plate appearances of the season.

Juniors Jackson Van De Brake and Hunter Stokley contributed two hits apiece, while Casey Cook, Vance Honeycutt, Tomas Frick, Patrick Alvarez, and Colby Wilkerson each had at least one run batted in.

It was a strong team performance for the UNC baseball program, as they once again take the field at Boshamer Stadium on Wednesday afternoon as they’ll host Longwood for another non-conference battle. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 PM EST.
