As we’re currently enjoying NBA All-Star Weekend, two future UNC basketball players were tabbed as players who could eventually win in the annual contests.

It’s NBA All-Star Weekend, as the sports’ biggest stars are in Salt Lake City, Utah going through the annual festivities.

One of the big nights of this event happens on Saturday night, as some of the sports best compete in challenges that put their elite skills to the test.

Although the UNC basketball program isn’t represented in this year’s event, 247Sports believes they could be in the not-too-distant future.

Brandon Jenkins awarded a winner for each challenge to a member of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 recruiting classes, as the Tar Heels are represented by two of their own commits.

Elliot Cadeau was tabbed as the Class of 2024 Skills Challenge winner. Here’s why Jenkins gave Cadeau the nod in this competition:

"Elliot Cadeau is a very skilled point guard who combines his skill set with a tremendous dose of athleticism. He is quick and fast; but more importantly, he has a great change of direction. When cut off by a defender, he can get to a counter move in the blink of an eye. His ability to quickly weave through tight spaces with the ball in his hands would make him hard to beat here."

In the Class of 2024 Slam Dunk contest, Jenkins selected Ian Jackson to win the competition. This should excite Tar Heels fans, as Jackson will soon enough be looking to perform some highlight reel dunks when he begins his career in Chapel Hill.

"Not only does Ian Jackson have the bounce that makes him worthy for the dunk contest, but he also carries a nickname that projects to be memorable. Also known as “Captain Jack,” Jackson has some serious pop in his legs. A true shooting guard at 6-foot-4, Jackson has elite explosion and off-the-charts athletic ability. He has a history of beating defenders on his attack and taking off with fast twitch fibers to finish at the rim."

The UNC basketball program has done a fantastic job recruiting the Class of 2024, as anticipation for Cadeau and Jackson’s arrival on campus is already very high. Who knows, maybe both will be competing in this event in a few years once their college careers come to a close.
