UNC Basketball: Danny Green To Join Cleveland Cavaliers
By Aaron Conrad
UNC Basketball alumni and champion is returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers following a buyout after a trade.
It has been an interesting couple of weeks for former Tar Heel and 2009 champion Danny Green. As we reported just a few weeks ago, Green made his season debut after a serious knee injury kept him out at the start of the season. After just three games with the Grizzlies, Green was a part of a trade to the Houston Rockets as a part of a three-team deal with the Los Angelos Clippers, Houston Rockets, and Memphis Grizzlies.
As soon as the trade was completed, Green began negotiations on a buyout with the Rockets making him a free agent. Today, he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
He was immediately welcomed by Cavs all-star Donovan Mitchell through his Twitter account.
As the video from Mitchell shows, this is a return to the team that originally drafted Danny in the 2009 draft. He spent seasons with Cleveland before being released. He appeared in 21 games over the course of those two seasons.
After signing with the San Antonio Spurs, Green really found his role and place in the NBA. He quickly became known as a “three and d” guy. Using those skills has allowed him to be a part of three NBA championship teams in San Antonio, Toronto, and Los Angelos.
This is a good signing for both Green and the Cavaliers. Green will have the opportunity to once again bring his championship experience to a young team that is on the rise. For Cleveland, they are getting a guy that can spread the defense and knock down open shots. He won’t be needed for extended minutes but will provide great leadership.
