UNC Basketball: Armando Bacot named to National Player of the Year Midseason Team
UNC basketball star big man Armando Bacot has been named to the 2023 Naismith National Player of the Year midseason team.
Another day, another midseason honor for UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot.
The Richmond, Virginia native is one of 30 players to make this list, as it narrows down the candidates for the annual Naismith Trophy Award, which is awarded to the top player in college basketball.
Bacot is one of four ACC players to make the list, as he’s joined by Kyle Filipowski (Duke), Terquavion Smith (NC State) as well as Isaiah Wong (Miami).
It’s no secret that Bacot is one of the top players in the country, as the big man has turned into a dominant force for the UNC basketball program. Currently, the senior leads the Tar Heels in both points (17.5) and rebounds (11.3) per game, and recently set the program’s all-time double-doubles and rebounding records.
Although the UNC basketball program has struggled as of late, it still shouldn’t take away from the fact that Bacot is one of the top players not only at his position but overall in the country. If Bacot can lead the Tar Heels to a strong final stretch of the season, he potentially could be considered among the top candidates to ultimately win the award.
