UNC women’s basketball standout Alyssa Ustby has been named among the Top 10 candidates for the annual Cheryl Miller Award.

On Wednesday, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced the top 10 candidates for the 2023 Cheryl Miller Award.

The award, which is named after Miller, a three-time Naismith Player of the Year and Class of 1995 Hall of Famer, honors the nation’s top small forward. UNC women’s basketball standout Alyssa Ustby is no stranger to this list, as she is once again recognized among some of the country’s top players.

Ustby was selected as a preseason top-20 player for this award in each of the last two seasons and has moved on to the top 10 list for the first time in her career.

Currently, Ustby ranks in the top 15 among ACC players in the following categories: scoring (12th), rebounding (3rd), field goal percentage (3rd), blocks (9th), and steals (12th). The junior from Rochester, Minnesota continues to be an integral part of the UNC women’s basketball program, as she’s played a major role in the team’s 16-5 start to the season.

Courtney Banghart and the Tar Heels have high aspirations for the remainder of this season, and Ustby certainly will play a huge role in how far they ultimately go. The hope is that Ustby can be part of the core that helps lead the UNC women’s basketball program back to the Final Four.
