Prior to the UNC basketball program’s Tuesday night’s contest at Syracuse, Hubert Davis provided an injury update regarding junior forward Puff Johnson.

The UNC basketball program has had plenty of injury concerns already throughout the 2022-2023 season, as the latest comes from junior forward Puff Johnson.

Johnson, who has been hampered by injuries during his time as a Tar Heel, missed Saturday’s game due to a sore right knee. Heading into Tuesday night’s contest, Johnson’s status is still up in the air.

On Monday, UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis said there’s a “chance” that Johnson will be available for the Tar Heels matchup with the Orange. However, he was not definitive on stating whether he would be able to go, as he’s most likely going to be a game-time decision.

"“Puff is doing a lot better in practice. It was two days before the NC State game. His knee was just really sore. He went in for a layup and came down and just didn’t feel good. Every day it has gotten better. There is a chance that he could play tomorrow, but I haven’t seen him today. We haven’t had practice yet. But it was just a sore knee. It was sore enough that he didn’t feel like he could play vs. N.C. State. He didn’t practice yesterday but he was moving a lot better and it just keeps getting better every day.”"

It’s likely that the Tar Heels will be extra cautious with Johnson, given what they know about his injury history as well as how important he is to this year’s squad. When he’s able to return, the hope is that the UNC basketball program will finally be at full strength for the first time this season.
