UNC Basketball: Armando Bacot claims program rebounding record
UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot continues to re-write the record books, as he’s officially the program’s all-time leading rebounder.
Move over Tyler Hansbrough, there’s a new all-time leading rebounder for the UNC basketball program.
Armando Bacot is now North Carolina’s all-time leading rebounder, as he surpassed Hansbrough’s previous record of 1,219 rebounds.
The senior big man now holds the record for most double-doubles and rebounds in UNC basketball history and is coming off a junior campaign in which he set the single-season mark with an astounding 511 rebounds.
Throughout his career at North Carolina, Bacot has developed into one of the most dominant big men in the country, and even though his journey in Chapel Hill isn’t quite finished, has earned a spot among the best players to ever wear the Carolina blue.
When Hansbrough set the record during his Tar Heels career, he shattered the previous record, which was held by Sam Perkins (1,167). Now with the record in his possession, Bacot will have plenty of time to extend his lead, making it even harder for future student-athletes to challenge.
This accomplishment is yet another example of how stellar of a college career Armando Bacot continues to put together. In the current world of college basketball (with “one and done” players and the transfer portal), it’s not often to see a player of Bacot’s caliber staying for a four-year period, as his newly-earned rebounding record may be able to hold up for quite some time.
