Armando Bacot breaks UNC basketball program’s double-double record

Records are meant to be broken, as UNC basketball standout Armando Bacot now owns a program record for most double-doubles in a career.

For 58 years, legendary Billy Cunningham held the record for most double-double performances by a student-athlete throughout their UNC basketball career.

On Saturday, senior big man Armando Bacot re-wrote the record books.

With his double-double performance against the NC State Wolfpack, Bacot is now in sole possession of the record. He tied the record in the Tar Heels’ victory over Boston College on Tuesday night in Chapel Hill.

Not only did Bacot average a double-double a season ago, but he’s also on pace to do it again this season. If he continues this trend, he’ll be able to finish his UNC basketball career averaging a double-double, as he’s currently on pace to do so (13.7 points and 10.2 rebounds over his 118 games heading into Saturday’s action).

Records are meant to be broken, as Bacot was destined to break this record at some point this season. With plenty of basketball left to be played, there’s a good chance that the senior will be able to increase his newly-acquired record before his time in Chapel Hill comes to a close.

Throughout his UNC basketball career, Bacot has been a tremendous asset to the program. He has improved drastically over his four-year career, as he’s developed into not only one of the top players in the ACC but is widely considered one of the best college basketball players in the entire country.

Many outstanding big men have worn the Carolina blue throughout their college basketball careers, and it is very safe to say that Armando Bacot has earned the right to be considered among the most elite players that have ever suited up for the UNC basketball program.
