Trailing heading into the fourth quarter, the UNC women’s basketball program dominated the final 10 minutes of play to defeat Virginia.

After three-quarters of play, the UNC women’s basketball program found themselves trailing by 9 to Virginia.

For some teams, this would be too much to overcome. Fortunately, the Tar Heels aren’t one of those teams.

70. 441. 59. 446. Final

North Carolina put together a very strong 10 minutes of play, capped off by a 22-2 run over the final 6:59 of play to end the contest, en route to an 11-point victory.

The Tar Heels ‘Big Three’ of Deja Kelly, Kennedy Todd-Williams, and Alyssa Ustby stepped up to the occasion, as they combined to score 57 of the Tar Heels’ 70 total points.

Todd-Williams made some huge three-pointers, as she finished the night with a career-high 21 points. Kelly, who made 9 of her 11 free throw attempts, also had 21 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.

Dealing with some early foul trouble, Ustby was efficient, scoring 15 points on 7-12 shooting. She also was her normal presence down low, as she recorded a team-high seven rebounds.

Other than the Tar Heels trio, North Carolina struggled to get offense elsewhere. The other Tar Heels to see the floor made just four of their combined 24-shot attempts, including a very rare scoreless night from starter Eva Hodgson.

We’ve seen this team rally late in games quite a bit this season, as the resilience of this group is certainly an impressive trait. They’ll look to build on this one, as they are set for another top-25 battle at home as they’ll host No. 11-ranked NC State on Sunday afternoon in Chapel Hill.
