It was an excellent weekend for the North Carolina Tar Heels, as both basketball programs were victorious, Sam Howell starred in his NFL debut, and more.

Without a doubt, it’s always a “Great Day to be a Tar Heel,” but we can change it to a “Great Weekend to be a Tar Heel” for this post.

With five-star high school standout Ian Jackson on campus, the UNC basketball program took home an impressive victory over Notre Dame. On Sunday, the North Carolina Tar Heels women’s basketball team followed suit, as they pulled off a major upset over the No. 4-ranked Fighting Irish.

As we begin the new week, let’s take a quick look back at some notable North Carolina Tar Heels news and notes:

Sam Howell wins NFL Debut

It took just one throw for former UNC football legend Sam Howell to complete his first NFL touchdown pass.

Making his first start for the Washington Commanders, Howell led his team to victory over the playoff-bound Dallas Cowboys.

Staff writer Aaron Conrad went into more detail regarding his performance.

Doesn’t Ian Jackson look good in Carolina Blue!

As mentioned earlier, Jackson made his official visit to Chapel Hill over the weekend.

Based on these photos, doesn’t the five-star look rather happy while wearing the UNC basketball uniform?

We’re certainly biased, but we think he does (much better than that other blue we prefer not to discuss).

Paulina Paris dominates the fourth quarter

In one of the UNC women’s basketball program’s biggest games of the early season, it was freshman Paulina Paris leading the charge.

Paris went on an offensive run of her own, scoring the first 11 points of the quarter for the Tar Heels en route to an upset victory over Notre Dame.

If you haven’t taken notice yet, we think that you should. Paulina Paris is going to be a star in Chapel Hill.

Other North Carolina Tar Heels News and Notes

Former UNC football player Keeshawn Silver has announced his transfer destination, as he’s joining the program that we tried not to discuss earlier in this post.

Silver has committed to the University of Kentucky, where he’ll look for a fresh start to his college football career.
