North Carolina Tar Heels: A big win, an upcoming NFL debut & more
It was a good day on Wednesday for the North Carolina Tar Heels, as there was plenty of positive news coming out of Chapel Hill.
When you can wake up in the morning and remember that the UNC basketball program won the night before, it’s safe to say it will be a good day.
Hubert Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels defended their home court with a big second half to defeat Wake Forest. The Tar Heels got some pretty big individual contributions, some of which we’ll get to in this post!
So, what went down in Chapel Hill yesterday? Let’s start with a former UNC football star who is set to make his NFL debut.
Sam Howell to start for Commanders
After not seeing the field at all through 17 weeks of his rookie season, Sam Howell is finally set to make his NFL debut on Sunday.
With the Washington Commanders out of playoff contention, it makes sense for the organization to start Howell, especially given that he is the only quarterback under contract heading into next season.
Howell will have a tough task ahead of him, as he’ll take on the playoff-bound Dallas Cowboys. However, we know the former Tar Heel will be ready, as he’ll look to make the most of this opportunity.
RJ Davis joins 1,000 point scorers club
Davis had a HUGE second half for the Tar Heels, scoring 22 points en route to a game-high and season-high 27 points.
In the first half, Davis scored five points to become the 81st member of the UNC basketball program to accomplish the feat.
How about Leaky Black?!
Without Leaky Black’s offensive production, especially in the first half, it’s likely that the UNC basketball program would’ve lost on Wednesday night.
Black scored 14 first-half points and finished the night with a career-high 18 points. It’s not his typical scoring output, but it came when the Tar Heels very much needed it.
UNC Basketball trio on Wooden Midseason Top 25 List
Armando Bacot, Caleb Love, and Deja Kelly have all been named to the Wooden Midseason Top 25 list, as they are all considered among the top players in the entire country.
The award, which is given to the most outstanding men’s and women’s basketball players, is one of the most prestigious honors in college basketball.
UNC Women’s Basketball looks to get back on track
It’s game day for Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program, as they’ll take on Miami in Coral Gables tonight at 6:00 PM. Keep an eye on Kelly, as she is just 13 points away from recording 1,000 career points.
