UNC football offensive lineman Asim Richards has officially made a decision on his future in football, as he announced his intentions on Wednesday.

Heading into the offseason, one of the UNC football program’s top offensive linemen had a decision to make regarding his future.

With a year of college eligibility remaining, Asim Richards had the option of returning to Chapel Hill for another season. After weighing his options, Richards has decided to forgo his final college season, as he intends to turn pro.

The news was not only confirmed by the school but his announced participation in the upcoming Reese’s Senior Bowl solidified it.

The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native leaves Chapel Hill after being a starter for each of the last three seasons. He’s coming off a 2022 season in which he played 1,049 total snaps on the Tar Heels offensive line while also playing as a member of the team’s special teams unit.

As the team’s left tackle, Richards became a strong pass blocker for the UNC football program. Although North Carolina’s offensive line has drawn a ton of criticism, Richards deserves a ton of credit for his production over his last three seasons.

Richards is the second offensive lineman that the Tar Heels have lost this season, as Ed Montilus previously announced that he will be leaving the program as well.
