UNC Basketball: RJ Davis joins 1,000-point scorers club

On Wednesday night, UNC basketball standout RJ Davis became the latest member of the program to surpass the 1,000 career point mark. 

Prior to their Wednesday night contest against Wake Forest, the UNC basketball program already held an NCAA record for most 1,000 career point scorers.

Now, the Tar Heels have extended their lead by one more.

Junior guard RJ Davis joined the club, as he became the 81st Tar Heel to accomplish the individual milestone. The White Plains, New York native reached the 1,000-point mark in his 83rd game, the 38th-fewest contests needed to reach the scoring mark.

The UNC basketball program currently has three players on their active roster that have scored 1,000 or more career points. Armando Bacot scored his 1,000th career point on January 22, 2022, and earlier this season, on November 24, Caleb Love joined the club as well.

Over his career in Chapel Hill, Davis has become a steady scoring presence for the UNC basketball season. Heading into Wednesday night’s action, the junior guard has averaged a career-high 15.9 points per game through the team’s first 14 games of the 2022-2023 season.

The list of UNC basketball 1,000-point scorers is rather impressive, as it’s filled with players who are not only Tar Heel legends but also put together strong NBA careers as well. Davis now joins this elite group of student-athletes, as he still has some more work to do before his time in Chapel Hill comes to a close.
