UNC Basketball standout Deja Kelly is among the 25 players that have been named to the Wooden Award midseason list for the 2022-2023 season.

To no surprise, UNC basketball star Deja Kelly is once again regarded among the top women’s basketball players in the country.

On Wednesday night, Kelly was named to the Wooden Award midseason top 25 list for the 2022-2023 season. Established in 1977, the Wooden Award is annually given to the most outstanding men’s and women’s college basketball players.

Kelly is one of five ACC players to make the midseason list, as she’s joined by Elizabeth Kitley of Virginia Tech, Ta’Niya Latson of Florida State, Olivia Miles of Notre Dame as well as Hailey Van Lith of Louisville.

Through 12 games played, Kelly leads the Tar Heels in scoring at 16.3 points per game. She’s also seen an increase in production in other areas of the game, as her assists and rebounds per game, along with her overall shooting percentage, have improved this season.

It’s no secret that Kelly is the leader of this UNC basketball team, as she played a big role in the program’s run to last year’s Sweet 16. Although she receives a ton of individual recognition, and rightly so, her main focus is to help her team succeed in any way possible.
