Drake Maye emerges as UNC football star

Losing a player of Sam Howell’s talent is never easy to replace. However, the UNC football program was able to fill the void, and one could argue that his replacement was even better in his first year under center.

Drake Maye, a redshirt freshman, continued where Howell left off, as the Tar Heels once again had one of the best offenses in the entire country. As the season went on, Maye not only made a name for himself at North Carolina but put himself in the conversation to be considered one of the top quarterbacks in the entire country.

Overall, Maye threw for 4,321 yards and 38 touchdowns through the air. He also made it happen on the ground, as he rushed for 698 yards and an additional seven scores.

Even with how the season ended for the UNC football program, the emergence of Drake Maye is the real storyline surrounding this program. As he’ll have at least another season in Chapel Hill, Maye should start the 2023 season as one of the favorites to win next year’s Heisman Trophy.
