UNC Football set to wrap up 2022 season in Holiday Bowl
The UNC football program will wrap up its 2022 season on Wednesday night as they take on Oregon in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego, California.
It will be a pretty different look for the UNC football program on Wednesday night in the annual San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl.
Since the regular season came to a close, the Tar Heels have been hit by numerous subtractions. Not only on the field, but within the coaching staff as well, as offensive coordinator Phil Longo has departed to Wisconsin.
North Carolina will look to end the season on a strong note, as they’ll take on the No. 15 ranked Oregon Ducks at Petco Park in San Diego, California. The Tar Heels come in as heavy underdogs, as Oregon is currently viewed as a 14.5-point favorite.
Can the Tar Heels pull off a massive upset and end the 2022 campaign with a win?
Key to Victory for North Carolina
Next Man Up.
That’s the mentality this group needs to take into this contest.
Of course, some key personnel won’t be there, but it’s up to the guys who are there to step up and get the job done. What better way to make an impression heading into next season than by having a standout performance in a bowl game?
Josh Downs can tell you about that, as his coming out party came during the Capitol One Orange Bowl against Texas A&M to end his freshman season.
Oregon is a very good team with a very good quarterback. North Carolina is also a good team with one of the best quarterbacks in the land.
In order to win this one, North Carolina is going to need some guys who haven’t played big roles this year to step up to the occasion.
Something to Watch For
The battle of Bo Nix and Drake Maye is the real headliner in this one.
Two very talented quarterbacks who made some noise throughout the season. They’ll go head-to-head, as it will come down to which offense works more effectively.
Nix may have the upper hand because the Ducks’ offensive line has done a tremendous job of protecting him. On the other hand, North Carolina has struggled to protect Maye, which could be an issue in this game as well.
If Oregon provides Nix with ample time to throw, it could be a long day for the Tar Heels defense, a group that’s secondary is essentially depleted for this one.
