UNC Basketball: Deja Kelly uses NIL to spread holiday cheer
With all the negativity surrounding the current state of the NIL rules, UNC basketball standout Deja Kelly used her endorsements to spread some holiday cheer.
When hearing about the world of NIL (Name, Image & Likeness), most of the talk is in a negative manner.
As schools try to poach some of the nation’s top talents, we’ve seen first-hand the ugly side of what the new rules can do to college athletics.
Fortunately, UNC basketball star guard Deja Kelly provided us with an example of how the NIL could be used for good.
Prior to the start of the Jumpman Invitational, Kelly provided some holiday cheer, courtesy of one of her partnerships with Beats. Each coach and player on both the UNC men’s and women’s basketball teams received a pair of custom-designed UNC-inspired beats headphones.
If you check out some of the player’s Instagram stories (such as RJ Davis and Puff Johnson), you’ll see just how excited they were to receive this awesome gift.
For visual proof, check out UNC basketball on-court public address announcer and sixth man BDaht when Kelly gave him his pair of beats headphones.
This is the perfect example of how the NIL deals that student-athletes earn can be used for good. It goes to show how much of a family both the men’s and women’s teams are, as these student-athletes and coaches are really all in it together.
I do have one question though… how can I get a pair of these?!
