The UNC football program has added some special teams depth, as transfer kicker Ryan Coe is set to leave Cincinnati to join the Tar Heels.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program have done well with the transfer portal over the last couple of days, as they’ve added yet another player to the mix.

Cincinnati kicker Ryan Coe announced via social that he will be joining the Tar Heels. This announcement comes after Coe made official visits to North Carolina and Wisconsin over the past week.

This will be Coe’s third stop in his college career, as he began his journey at Delaware. As a Blue Hen, the McDonald, Pennsylvania native was a two-time All-CAA selection before transferring to Cincinnati.

In his lone season with the Bearcats, Coe made 19 of his 23 field goal attempts while making all 44 of his extra-point attempts. Over his college career, Coe has been automatic on extra points and comes to Chapel Hill with a 78.9 field goal percentage.

Before the start of this season, Noah Burnette and Jonathan Kim battled for the placekicker job. Burnette won the competition, leaving Kim to serve as the team’s kickoff specialist.

However, Kim elected to enter the transfer portal after four games, as he ultimately decided to enroll at Michigan State. Burnette is coming off a season in which he connected on 13 of his 18 field goal attempts, and should compete with Coe for the job during training camp.

The Tar Heels needed to add another kicker, as Coe joins the mix with an already impressive resume under his belt. It will be interesting to see how this battle plays out, as this is a competition to keep an eye out for during the team’s training camp heading into the 2023 season.
