The UNC football program’s latest transfer addition already has some family ties to the team’s current roster, as he’ll join forces with his brother.

For the third time in the last two days, the UNC football program has added a player via the transfer portal.

This one already has some family connections to the Tar Heels football team.

Georgia Tech transfer Derrik Allen is set to join the Tar Heels as a graduate transfer. The safety will have the opportunity to play alongside his brother Marcus, who is a current cornerback on the UNC football program’s roster.

Allen spent three seasons with the Yellow Jackets, as he recorded 46 tackles (23 solo) and one interception over 31 games played. He’ll join a Tar Heels secondary that is going through a bit of a rebuild after the transfer portal claimed some of the team’s top talent at the position.

Listed as a strong safety, Allen is a player who became a valuable piece in Georgia Tech’s secondary. He’ll have the opportunity to spend his final season of college football helping the Tar Heels bolster their secondary for the 2023 season.

Their father, Derrik, told Inside Carolina how happy the family is for this opportunity.

"“It really is like a dream come true as a father and for our family. As the younger brother, Marcus has always looked up to Derrik [even to this day] and Derrik is without a doubt one of Marcus’s biggest supporters. For them to get a chance to play together is really special.”"
