The UNC football program has added some talent via the transfer portal, as an impact offensive lineman has committed to the Tar Heels.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program received some great news on Sunday, as a top impact offensive lineman transfer has announced his commitment to the Tar Heels.

Coastal Carolina offensive lineman Willie Lampkin is the latest addition to North Carolina’s roster, as he comes to Chapel Hill with three seasons of experience and two years of eligibility remaining.

Upon entering the transfer portal, Lampkin was one of the top available players at his position. He has experience playing two positions (left guard and center), as he helped anchor Coastal Carolina’s offense in his time with the program.

As a freshman, Lampkin earned freshman All-American honors as a left guard, as the team ranked in the top 20 nationally in rushing and scoring offense. After another strong season at the position as a sophomore, Lampkin transitioned to center for his junior season, a move that paid dividends for Coastal Carolina.

Not only did Lampkin earn first-team All-Sun Belt honors, but he was also named the conference’s offensive lineman of the year by the College Football Network.

In his 37 starts, Coastal Carolina put together an impressive 31-6 record. He hopes to continue that success in Chapel Hill, helping a UNC football program’s offensive line unit that will have a new look next season.

Not only does North Carolina have a new offensive line coach, but will possibly have to replace starters from this year’s team. Three of the team’s starters went through Senior Day festivities, but none have stated their future intentions at this point.

Even if the entire line does return, it’s very likely that Lampkin will factor into next year’s lineup.

A versatile, proven lineman is a huge addition to the UNC football program, as improving the team’s presence upfront could help make the Tar Heels offense even more explosive moving forward.
