The UNC football program has found its new offensive coordinator, as Chip Lindsey is heading to Chapel Hill to work with the Tar Heels offense.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program have found their new offensive coordinator.

After spending a season as the UCF offensive coordinator, Chip Lindsey has accepted the same position at North Carolina. Not only will he serve as the team’s offensive coordinator, but will also be the quarterbacks coach as well.

Lindsey is a 26-year coaching veteran who comes to Chapel Hill with a reputation for being one of the country’s most creative offensive minds. His resume proves itself, as he’s produced high-powered offenses as a head coach, offensive coordinator, and quarterbacks coach.

Over his 11 seasons as a full-time collegiate-level coach, Lindsey’s offenses have averaged 30+ points per game in eight of those respective seasons. Last season under Lindsey’s direction, the UCF offense ranked among the top 30 programs in the country in points per game (34.4), No. 11 in total offense (480.6 yards per game), and eighth overall in rushing yards per contest (236.1). The Knights’ had nine games during the 2022 season in which they rushed for 200 or more yards, and their 33 scores on the ground ranked No. 10 in the nation.

Here’s what Mack Brown had to say regarding the hiring of Chip Lindsey:

"“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Chip, his wife Cecily, and their four children, Claire, Caroline, Cooper and Conner, to the Carolina football family. Chip is well-versed in UNC’s offensive style of play and he has a wealth of experience working with some of the greatest offensive minds in the country. You can see that in the way his offenses play. Chip is multiple in his approach and has the unique skill of adapting based on personnel. He’s developed quarterbacks at a high level including two current NFL QBs in Nick Mullens and Jarrett Stidham. Chip does a great job teaching the young men he works with and giving them the ability to maximize their potential. Everyone I spoke with during the search raved about him as both a coach and a person and we’re thrilled he and his family are part of our program.”"

Lindsey will now look to continue his coaching success with the UNC football program, as he’ll have the opportunity to work with standout quarterback Drake Maye and an offensive unit that has some quality skill players around him.

Based on his recent tweet, Maye seems excited to work with his new offensive coordinator:

The hope is that Lindsey can help the team continue its offensive success moving forward. Based on his past resume, it’s very possible that the UNC football program could once again feature a high-powered offense in 2023 and beyond.
