Short, who decommitted from ECU earlier this month, is ranked as the No. 28 player in the state and had offers from over 29 programs across the country.
Over the last few months, Short’s recruitment has taken a quick turn.
In June, the Charlotte, North Carolina native took a visit to East Carolina, as he committed to the Pirates before departing the school’s campus.
Fast forward to the start of his senior season at Mallard Creek High School, where his performance began attracting the attention of some notable schools, including North Carolina. He recorded 124 tackles (27 for a loss) and 12 dozen sacks, plus 10 quarterback pressures to go along with two interceptions.
In mid-November, the likes of North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Missouri offered scholarships to the three-star linebacker. He began to take official visits to campus and de-committed from East Carolina between visits to Wake Forest and North Carolina.
After leaving his official visit to Chapel Hill, Short was quick to announce a commitment date. At that point, it seemed likely that Short was North Carolina-bound.

His commitment brings the Tar Heels up to 18 commits in the Class of 2023. The program is also expected to jump back into the Top 25 recruiting classes for this given cycle.
